Career Services

Career readiness built into the curriculum.

Potentially is the career readiness platform for university careers services. Your programmes, events and awards run inside the teaching systems students already log into, and what students do there becomes a profile that shows an employer what they can do.

The challenge

Engage every student in career readiness.

Potentially helps careers services bridge the engagement gap by reaching students where they already are, making their skills visible, and making campus-wide rollout possible with smart automations.

Increase reach Reach students by embedding into their course.

Potentially reaches the students who would never book, by putting career readiness where they already study. What each student sees is personalised to them.

Embed skills Students tell their skills story.

Students track how their skills develop, articulate them in their own words, and show employers the evidence behind each one.

Manage at scale Run career services and career readiness at scale.

One platform for your team as well as your students. Events, bookings, awards and badges together, with automation doing the checking and analytics showing you where to act.

Students spend most of their week in their course. That is where career readiness has to meet them.

With Potentially, career readiness arrives in the course, not in the inbox.

Embedded in Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or D2L, your events, bookings and programmes sit alongside the coursework a student opens every week, for three years. Your team reaches students there, as well as everywhere it already does.

Four phases

Career readiness happens in four phases. We support students and the institution through each of them.

Not an event in final year, but three years of small steps, most of them inside the course. Potentially provides the tools for all of it — bookings, programmes, awards, analytics and the automations that hold them together — as a comprehensive career readiness layer for your institution.

  1. A first-year student at a desk with headphones round her neck.
Not yet sure what to pursue. Decide.

A strengths and values self-assessment inside a first-year module, so career thinking starts where the course starts. A first reflection, a first event booked.

Your service seesWho is still deciding, by school and cohort, from the module roster.

  2. A student looking ahead thoughtfully in a study space.
Knows the direction, needs the experience. Plan.

Pathways, workshops and mentoring, with award criteria ticking over. Placement preparation with a supervisor already in the loop.

Your service seesHow far each cohort has moved since registration, and where provision is thin.

  3. A student smiling at a laptop, ready to apply.
    Ready to apply. Compete.

CV review, interview preparation and a Skills Brief for each role: the student pastes the job advert and gets a document matching its requirements to their evidence, with a tutor reference built in. Badges shared to LinkedIn.

Your service seesReadiness by school and cohort, before the deadline, not after.

  4. A graduate in a workplace.
A job, further study or a venture confirmed. Sorted.

The profile belongs to the graduate, not to the account, and every skill still links to the work behind it. It is shared by link or QR code, so an employer opens it without an account and without going through the institution.

Your service seesOutcomes you can see now, not fifteen months on.

The four phases are those of Careers Registration, the approach Dr Bob Gilworth and his team devised at the University of Leeds in 2012, now used by more than 90 UK higher education institutions, so the data your institution already collects at enrolment lines up with the phases the platform runs.

For your team

The tools your team runs every day.

Everything a careers service schedules, builds and recognises, in one place, and every action lands on the same student record.

Run the service
Events and bookings

Talks, workshops, drop-ins and one-to-ones, with capacity, waitlists and check-in that verifies attendance.

Pathway builder

Build programmes from self-assessments, events, content and reflection, and place them in any module across the institution.

Awards and badges

Set your own criteria for bronze, silver and gold. Progress is tracked for you, and Open Badges issue the moment a student qualifies.

Readiness assessments

Self-assessments and 360 feedback that return a personalised report and a next step, built with Insight Compass. Explore Insight Compass →

Placements

Coordinate placements and work-integrated learning with supervisors, weekly reflection and structured feedback in the same place.

CV review workflow

Students submit a CV for review, advisers return it with comments and a next step, and one-to-ones and drop-ins book from the same calendar. Every review adds to the student’s record.

The infrastructure

The infrastructure your career readiness runs on.

Careers services are asked to reach every student, evidence what they gain and report it by school, cohort and widening-participation group. That needs plumbing, not another website. Potentially is the layer that runs underneath: placed inside the courses students already open, recording everything they do there as one record, and carrying it back to the institution and outward to the places students apply.

Potentially works with the vacancy system and careers platform your team already runs, adding the readiness layer underneath them — or runs the whole service, if that is what you need.

Works with what you already run.

Potentially connects to your vacancy system and sits alongside your careers platform, so your team keeps the tools it knows and gains the readiness layer underneath.

Points students at the right boards.

Most disciplines have job platforms of their own. Potentially recommends the ones that fit each student, so specialist routes reach the people they suit.

Runs the whole service too.

Starting without a platform, Potentially runs the day-to-day: events and bookings, programmes, awards and placements, with vacancies posted wherever you post them now.

Advice that starts from the record.

Every event, placement, assessment and piece of work lands on one record, so advice starts from what the student has actually done. A Skills Brief matches each job advert to their own evidence, and every adviser comment joins the same record.

The difference

What changes for students, services and the institution.

Students and staff talking around a table.
Students
  • One record of what they’ve done, which stays theirs after they graduate.
  • Advice that starts from their own evidence, with a Skills Brief for each role they apply for.
The careers service
  • Reporting against the groups your access and participation plan commits to.
  • One framework across schools, so a skill means the same thing everywhere.
