Insight Compass

Answer the questions. Get a report. Take the next step.

Self-assessments and 360 feedback with instant reports.

Insight Compass is Potentially’s assessment maker for universities, professional bodies and employers. Your team writes the self-assessment or 360 on your own frameworks; every person who completes it receives a report and a next step the moment they finish.

For the learner

Most assessments collect answers. This one gives something back.

Answers go into your data, but the person who gave them gets a report, guidance and a next step first. Here is what that looks like from the learner’s side.

For your team

Write the assessment once. Choose who answers.

Your team writes the questions, sets how the answers are scored, and designs the report. Then you decide who answers.

Self-assessment

The learner answers about themselves.

A skills audit, career readiness, wellbeing and resilience, or a needs analysis before a development programme.

Compass 360

The people who work with them answer the same questions.

A manager, peers, a mentor or a placement supervisor. Their ratings and the learner’s own sit side by side in one report.

Build the assessment

Build a self-assessment that reports back.

Type a question, choose how it is answered and which dimension it scores, drag the band thresholds, and preview the report as a learner. Templates give your team a starting point.

Compass 360

The self-rating, met by the raters’ view.

Managers, peers, mentors or supervisors answer the same questions about the learner. Where the two views disagree, the report flags the gap — and that gap becomes the development plan.

Running a round

Your team sets the round up once. The platform does the chasing.

Assessment programmes usually stall in the weeks of chasing after launch. Here that work is built in.

  • 01Invitations. Your team assigns raters, or learners nominate their own.
  • 02Live status. Invited, in progress, submitted or overdue, in one grid.
  • 03Reminders. Sent only to the people who are behind.
  • 04Release rules. By hand, on completion, or at a threshold you set.
  • 05Alerts. Raised when completion drops, while there is still time.
  • 06Audit log. Every change recorded, and exportable.
For your institution

Read the whole cohort, department by department.

Dashboards your team assembles from a library of charts, and every dataset exportable — a spreadsheet for your analysts, a PDF summary for deans and accreditation reviewers.

Cohort analytics

See where the cohort needs support.

Heatmaps by department and dimension, themes from free-text answers, and movement between retakes — flagged against thresholds your team sets.

MTU Ready, measured before the first lecture.

Munster Technological University runs its student development programme on Potentially across six campuses. The 2025 intake completed a structured self-assessment before their first lecture, so growth is the difference between two readings, not an estimate.

Getting started

Build the assessment yourself, or with our team.

Most institutions want company for the first one. Our team can work alongside yours on framework and report design, or handle the first assessment end to end and hand the controls back with training. After that, your team writes the questions, defines the feedback logic and designs the report without us — and question banks covering graduate attributes, career readiness, professional standards and wellbeing are there to adapt.

Where the assessment runs

Inside Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or D2L over LTI 1.3 Advantage, so students complete the assessment where they already learn. Where there is no LMS — staff development, CPD, employer programmes — access runs through single sign-on or email invitation. Results populate the learner’s Skills Profile either way. Hosting, residency and the security detail are on Integrations & Security.

Questions

What your team will ask first.

Do we need a developer?
No. The questions, the scoring bands and the report are all authored in the editor by the people who own the assessment — typically a careers or assessment team rather than IT. Guidance sits in the editor as you go.
What does IT actually have to do?
Connect the LMS over LTI 1.3 Advantage, and set up single sign-on if you want it. After that the assessment is placed in courses by the academic or professional-services team, not by IT. Data residency, hosting and the security detail are on the Integrations & Security page.
Can we get the data out?
Yes. A dashboard tab exports its charts as a spreadsheet, responses export whole or filtered or selected, the audit log exports with its timestamps and actors intact, and a cohort summary downloads as a PDF for programme directors, deans and accreditation reviewers.
Can we start from something rather than a blank page?
Yes. Templates for a skills audit, a learning diagnostic and a wellbeing check-in come with their questions, dimensions and report already in place, for your team to reword and adapt. Or start blank and build your own.
Will the report look like ours?
Colours, logo and type follow your organisation, so the report a learner opens looks like it came from you. The same report downloads as a formatted PDF.
Does this work for staff and professionals, or only students?
The same engine runs for all three audiences. In a CPD or employer deployment the learner is a member of staff or a professional, access runs through single sign-on or email invitation rather than an LMS, and 360 cycles sit inside professional development and review.
We already run a survey platform. Does this replace it?
Not necessarily. If your survey platform does research, keep it: Potentially reads survey feedback into the same analytics and does the development work research tools were never built for. Tell us what you run now and we will tell you whether this is a change worth making.
